The First-level Provincial Key Majors
 

Chemical Engineering & techniques

The traditional preponderant major embodies Hubei Key Laboratory of Novel Reactors and Green Chemical Technology, Hubei Technology Center of Chemical Industry, The Researching Base of Refined Chemical Engineering, The Researching Base of phosphorus Chemistry, etc. With the qualification of awarding the first-level subject of Master degree, he subject includes five second-level provincial key majors as follows:? chemical engineering, chemical technology, bioengineering, applied chemistry, industrial catalyzing engineering. In 2006, the subject was nominated for the first-level subject of Doctor degree. The major has formed a strong and consummate faculty which has 9 professors and 9 associated professors and 7 Doctors. Among the faculty, 3 teachers have enjoyed the State Department fund and 1 is rewarded as the specialist with special contributions. The major has witnessed many findings, awards and academic papers, 28 of them were recorded by SCI, EI and ISTP. It has three research directions: the chemical reaction and reactor techniques, separating process and techniques and chemical process simulation and optimization.

Chemical Engineering
The major was listed as the first patch of key subject on Hubei province and granted the right to confer the Master degree in the year of 2000. In 2006, it was added to the fourth patch of the second-level subjects for Doctor degree. The major has formed a strong and consummate faculty which has 9 professors and 9 associated professors and 7 Doctors. Among the faculty, 3 teachers have enjoyed the State Department fund and 1 is rewarded as the specialist with special contributions. The major has witnessed many findings, awards and academic papers, 28 of them were recorded by SCI, EI and ISTP. It has three research directions: the chemical reaction and reactor techniques, separating process and techniques and chemical process simulation and optimization.

Chemical technique

In1998the subject was listed as the key subject by the former Ministry of Chemical Industry and was given the right to confer the Master degree in the same year. In 2004, the subject was awarded as “the subject of outstanding achievement and innovation” by the Department of Education. In 2006, the subject was added to the list of the fourth patch of the second-level subject of Doctor degree. Now, the faculty embodies 10 professors and 8 associated ones. The primary research concerns the theoretical and technological problems of the analysis of chemical techniques and design. The main task is to solve the technological and economic problems in the developing process of the new craftwork, products and techniques, especially environment protective ones in the field. The subject has been armed with the top-class experimental and researching facilities and has made numerous achievements in the respect of processing simulation and optimization, new products synthesis, design and innovation of devices for separating techniques, petrochemical engineering and environment protective chemical techniques. The subject boasts countless awards for science and technology innovation and creates the profits up to dozens of millions.

Biochemical Industry

The major got the right to confer the Master degree in 2003. It has 7 professors and 7 associated professors. It mainly studies theoretical and technological problems in the field of life sciences. The researching direction includes synthetic pharmaceutical techniques, pharmaceutical techniques and process research, computer-aided pharmaceutical design, extraction separation and application of the natural medical ingredients, new medical liquid research and application, biochemical reactor and kinetics, bacteria nurturing technology, etc. Recently, dozens of researching projects have received national and provincial funds as significant projects. Many study achievements have been awarded and recognized and many research papers have been published by SCI, EI. The subject boasts its strong and prominent professor-nuclear faculty, its advanced devices. Undoubtedly, it can foster talents with high quality and comprehensive ability.?

Applied Chemistry

The major received the right to confer the Master degree in 2003. it has 8 professors and 15 associated professors. The main research directions are bionic chemistry, the development of functional polymer material and refined chemical productions, etc. the theory of molecule differentiation, the application of functional polymer material engineering in biomedicine, etc. it’s essential task is to solve the theoretical and technological problems in the field. In recent years, the major has received five kinds of funds from the national nature science fund. Moreover, it has received many types of funds from the provincial fund for nature science and the Provincial Department of Education. The number of papers published in SCI and EI is soaring yearly. Some applicable findings have been adopted by some big enterprises and created remarkable economic value. The major has lots sets of giant instruments which have laid the solid foundation for research work and education of postgraduates.

Industrial Chemistry of Catalysis

The major received the right to grant Master degree in 2005. It has 8 professors and 10 associated professors. The science and engineering of catalysis is one of the most active scientific fields internationally. According to the statistics the turnover related to the major approximately takes up 25% of GNP. Catalyzer is one of technological products that updates and regenerates fastest and products largest economic output. In recent years, the development of material physics, computer virtual techniques, green chemistry and nanoscience vitalizes the development of catalysis science and engineering and makes it the backbone in the techniques of solving problems in the field of resource, environment, life and material. It has advanced instruments and strong, experienced elites. It won one national invention award, 3 provincial and municipal awards, more than ten outcomes and invention patents. More than 160 papers have been published in some national and domestic publications.

Material Science & Engineering
The major has a Key Laboratory of Plasma Chemistry & Advanced Materials. The study is mainly about the theoretical and technological problems in the preparation of materials, model manufacturing, model design, the structure and attributes of materials, etc. The primary task is to study and tap the new materials with various special qualities for the domestic economy. ?It has mature technological environment of well-equipped facilities and has done many achievements in plasma chemistry, inorganic nonmetal materials engineering, macromolecule science and engineering, plastic modeling and model design, etc. It enjoys numerous awards for its contribution in the development of science and technology and remarkable profits. The major has received the right to confer the Master degree of the first-level subjects embodying three second-level key subjects, namely, science of? materials, material physics and chemistry, material processing engineering.

Material Science

In 2003, the major received the right to grant the Master degree. In 2006, the major was newly listed as the second-level subject for Doctor degree f the fourth patch. It has a strong, high-level and well-constructed academic faculty. Aided by national and provincial fund, many research projects have been done. Many awards have been bestowed and profits have gained, the influence has been spread in the field. The major has formed its steady research field with its own characteristics, such as plasma chemistry and pellicle material, functional mineral material, functional polymer material, nanomaterail and nanotechnology, etc.

Material Physics and Chemistry

In 2005, the major received the right to confer the Master degree. It has a strong, reasonable-structured academic faculty. They have shouldered many scientific projects and been rewarded the second prize of national scientific progress. After years of constructions, it has formed the steady research direction in its own field including material processing, the new method and rationale of material processing, the modification and protection of the material’s surface, modeling of inorganic material, the rationale and application of polymer material manufacture, etc.
Material Processing Engineering
The major received the right to confer the Master degree in 2005. The primary researches are the theory of material processing and special processing, new method and rationale of material processing, denaturation and protection of the material’s surface, new techniques of the inorganic material’s modeling, the theory and application of macromolecule material, model design of the macromolecule material’s modeling and CAD/CAE/CAM, polymer material & its modeling, etc.

The Second-level Provincial Key Majors

Inorganic Chemistry

The major received the right to confer the Master degree in 2005. the research directions are mainly about the simulation of metallic enzyme, the development of the refined inorganic productions, etc. the research involves the methodology and application of simulacrum and biomolecule, differentiation and slicing of molecule, electricity and magnetism methodology, microbursa applying in inorganic nanomaterial, the exploiture of? new refined inorganic chemical products, the application of supergravity field technique, the preparation of inorganic nanomaterial, the exploiture of health products and special-purposed medicine. It’s main task is to study the reactive rationale in the process of the relevant matter’s preparation, the relationship between molecular structure and attributes, etc. It also deals with the theoretical and technological problems in the relevant fields. In recent years, many academic projects have been accomplished including those of the national or provincial fund of nature science. Scores of academic papers have been released in the international or national nuclear publications. Dozens have been published in SCI each year. On the average, one patent is attained in the fields. The major has all kinds of advanced instruments and devices which concrete the foundation for the academic research and postgraduate’s education.

Polymer Chemistry and Physics

In 2005, the major was granted with the right to confer the Master degree. By meeting the demands of the development in the material field of Hubei province and the middle-southern part of China, the major have developed the steady research direction and accomplished many national and provincial academic projects. With the establishment of the two key labs, namely “new reactor & green chemistry technology” and “plasma chemistry & advanced materials, a strong and consummate faculty has been shaped, many influential academic pioneers emerged. Many national and provincial research projects have been undertaken and accomplished. Many awards have been conferred. The essential research involves biomedical macromolecule, functional macroleule, the fictionalization of polymer, preparation of organic polymer, the synthesis of polymer, etc.

Environment Engineering

The major received the right to confer the Master degree in 2003. The major focuses on water-pollution supervision, air-pollution supervision, wastes recycling and environment supervision. Its main assignment is to solve the technique problems in the field of environment engineering and the process of developing new techniques and products. The major is facilitated with the top-class equipment and have undertaken many research projects. It boats many patents and awards. It is notable that numerous findings have been achieved in the respect of wastes treatment and disposing, wastes recycling, environment protective material research, etc.

Disaster Prevention & Reduction Engineering and Protection Engineering

The major received its right to confer the Master degree in 2005. It is a newly-emerged marginal science in the overlaps of construction engineering, earthquake engineering, environment engineering, information engineering, etc. the main research targets are to study and develop the scientific theory, methods and techniques to improve the structure of construct project and its ability to resist the natural disaster or man-made ones.

Mechanical Discipline of the Chemical Course

The major received its right to confer the Master degree in 2000. In the year of 2006, the major was added in the fourth patch of the second-level subject for Doctor degree. It boasts well-facilitated environment for experiments and research and enjoys fruitful findings in the study of effective energy-saving devices of heat-transmit, bumps in the chemical processing, the erosion & damage reducing and durable skills in the processing equipment, etc. It has received many awards and prizes and created ten millions of profits.

Mechanical Electronic Engineering

The major received the right to confer the Master degree in 2003. It has established the good foundation for the construction of the faculty and research. In addition, it has achieved a lot of profitable findings for the national economy. It has many scientific and academic projects and abundant fund. The major is a comprehensive subject combines mechanics, electronics, information techniques, controlling techniques, subtle & exquisite engineering techniques. It has been widely applied in the modernization of the manufacture and has been playing a vital role in the development of science and technology, especial in the development of the optic valley.

Pattern Differentiation

The major received its right to confer the Master degree in 2005. It is a new science develops on the basis of sign processing, artificial intelligence and computer science. It takes various sensors as its information source, the theory and skills of pattern differentiation as its core, math and computer as its tool to explore the methods of processing, classifying and comprehending the media information. It is a science demands the tight combination of theory and practice and is a crucial scientific branch of the valuable controlling science and engineering. In recent years, it has undertaken many scientific researches and produced immense social and economic benefits. It has shaped its own specialty and preponderance in the technology of intelligent robots, image and graphics, database application system, etc.
